The Best Practice Scheme comes from the desire to inform industry stakeholders on how to best manage the risks, procurements and operational performance of a biogas plant. With these guidelines, ADBA makes the British anaerobic digestion industry even more cutting edge, setting its standards and providing all the necessary information to build a plant in the correct fashion. The scheme, now created for the British market, can later be extended to all the countries that lack adequate regulations.
Following the publication of the three guidelines last July, ADBA is continuing its work to complete the Best Practice Scheme. In the first six months of 2017, the steering group is concentrating its efforts on the creation of a certification scheme to support plant owners and demonstrate that the UK biogas industry is adhering to particularly high standards in the installation of biogas plants. This initiative is made possible through collaboration with the industry, with the accreditation and certification body (UKAS) and with representatives of the insurance industry.
Thanks to all the work carried out in the past six months, the pilot phase of the Best Practice Scheme was launched during the UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017 event. The next step will be a test phase on three biogas plants to investigate any possible areas for improvement, and once the final version is completed the scheme will be open to all agricultural and food waste plants.
