Énergir calls upon renewable natural gas producers to increase its offer

Montréal, November 1, 2019 – Énergir has issued a request for proposals for renewable natural gas (RNG) producers to increase the quantity of RNG in its gas system.

Since the spring of 2019, Énergir has been subject to the Regulation respecting the quantity of renewable natural gas to be delivered by a distributor (c. R-6.01, r. 4.3), which requires natural gas distributors to deliver annually a certain quantity of renewable natural gas within
their system.

As a key player in Quebec’s energy transition, and in accordance with this regulation, Énergir wants to increase the quantity of RNG available for its customers who are seeking to reduce GHG emissions.

Details of the request for proposals

Énergir has called upon various renewable natural gas producers from:

• waste water sludge treatment plants;
• landfills;
• anaerobic digestion from agricultural residues;
• anaerobic digestion from domestic and industrial organic waste;
• any other producer capable of producing volumes of RNG from any other source of organic matter.

Producers who want to supply volumes of renewable natural gas may now do so. Bids must be submitted by Monday, December 2, 2019 at 5 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
