It’s natural for us to re-think energy and to be interested in biomethanation. It’s natural because it is an energy solution that uses a lost resource – the organic matter from waste – to create a renewable natural gas: biomethane. Contributing to the emergence of biomethane means making sure that everyone can live in a world that is more blue.
We are Québec’s leading natural gas distributor, and our aim is to introduce renewable natural gas into our network. We are also deeply invested in developing innovative energy projects that show promise.
With close to $7 billion in assets, Énergir is a major energy distributor. It is the largest natural gas distribution company in Québec, where its network of over 11,000 km of underground pipelines serves some 300 municipalities and nearly 200,000 customers. Énergir is also present in Vermont, where it has more than 310,000 customers. The company is actively involved in developing and operating innovative, promising energy projects, including natural gas as fuel, liquefied natural gas as a replacement for higher emission-producing energies, wind and solar power, and renewal natural gas. It is a major energy sector player that takes the lead in meeting the needs of its customers, regions and municipalities, local organizations, and communities while also satisfying the expectations of its partners (GMi and Valener) and employees.
Our main activities include:
1. Open access to the gas distribution system and energy expertise, to develop biomethane production in Québec: Offer our energy expertise to municipalities and promoters; Provide energy consulting
Implement and operate gas infrastructures; Ensure gas quality control
Provide a connection to the gas distribution system; Ensure energy distribution; Purchase the renewable natural gas
2. Set up connection and injection infrastructures to connect the biomethanation sites to the gas distribution system and supply biomethane to consumers
3. Offer customers renewable gas that meets the highest quality, reliability and safety standards, to help them reduce their GHG emissions
